Clinton’s 2004 Democratic National Convention Speech

Jul 27

Did anyone listen to Clinton’s speech? I think that is one of the best speeches I have ever heard. I started to get all excited just listening to it.

A few thoughts bubbled up as I was listening.

POLITICAL ACTIVISM

I think I am pretty typical when it comes to politics. I like to talk about the issues, but I don’t go nutty. I will vote, but I won’t campaign for Kerry. I feel twinges of pride on the fourth of July, but I don’t tell my friends from other countries that America is a better country than theirs.

However, I crave to make things better where I can.

I have always tried to stay current on events and study the issues before making a judgment. I have read speeches from Kennedy, Lincoln, and the founding fathers. I am continually amazed at the life altering impact that Marx and the progressive socialist thinkers have had on Europe.

But still the thought around us is that we can’t make a change. It is sad that anyone ever thinks this. The truth is that it has always been single individuals who have made the greatest changes.

WHO HAS INFLUENCED YOU

I also find it funny that people are surprised that blogging is having such an impact. As much as the media (all the way back to the first newspapers or bibles were written) wants to express certain views individuals have read what they wanted (or talked about what they wanted when they couldn’t read). The capitalist, democratic, or socialist ideals that have had so much influence on the world have always had humble beginnings with someone that can either capture a current shared by many or show a new idea that is appealing.

So who has influenced you? What individuals have made an impact on your life?
