A Chat with MacArthur ‘Genius’ Grant Winners

Naomi Ehrich Leonard, marine roboticist, 40: A Princeton University professor, Leonard constructs autonomous underwater vehicles that mimic flocking birds and assist in the understanding of ocean dynamics.

This is extremely interesting.

She is trying to replicate the actions of groups of animals such as fish and birds.

These animals are all individually selfish, yet as a group they work together to accomplish tasks that would be impossible individually.

The professor made the comment that it has to do with information aggregation. I really like that idea. When you think about people, our power is very much in the aggregation and promulgation of information.

The more that we are able to work together the faster our species progresses.

Fascinating.
